Games & Dances From Around The World Unit

Purpose of Activity:

This is a unit plan that teaches diversity through games and dance.

Suggested Grade Level:

K-2

Materials Needed:

A World map, country signs (PDF | Editable Word Document), music for dances, and equipment for each game as specified in the game write up.

Description of Idea

Read the full Unit Plan (includes links to videos).

Students start by a map of the world with a country sign posted listing the dance or game that will be taught for the lesson. A dance from around the world is taught followed by a game from a different country. Some create a dance is also incorporated into the unit. The unit ends with a station day of games from around the world.

Assessment Ideas:

At the end of class questions can be asked:

What country they visited?

What was the patterns in the dance?

How did they show respect during the dance or game?

Students can be assessed on one or more dances.
