Name/Title: Games & Dances From Around The World Unit

Purpose of Event: This is a unit plan that teaches diversity through games and dance.

Suggested Grade Level: K-2

Materials Needed: A World map, country signs (PDF | Editable Word Document), music for dances, and equipment for each game as specified in the game write up.

Description of Idea

Students start by a map of the world with a country sign posted listing the dance or game that will be taught for the lesson. A dance from around the world is taught followed by a game from a different country. Some create a dance is also incorporated into the unit. The unit ends with a station day of games from around the world.

Assessment Ideas:

At the end of class questions can be asked:

What country they visited?

What was the patterns in the dance?

How did they show respect during the dance or game?

Students can be assessed on one or more dances.
