Olympic Games Unit

Purpose of Activity:

To develop student knowledge of the origin of the Olympic games while accessing scientific data, research, and theory. In addition, you can then implement learned knowledge into kinesthetic learning of various game skill practice and school-wide exercise.

Prerequisites:

Knowledge of technology video skills

Suggested Grade Level:

6-8

Description of Idea

This is a 3 week unit plan. The goal is to allow students to present the history and origin of the Olympics to their fellow peers. This will develop their collaboration, critical thinking, social, and physical skills. The last week should be a celebration of the Olympic Games and get the whole school involved in playing games and exercising.

Variations:

You can implement and showcase the Special Olympic Games as well.

Assessment Ideas:

Presentations (utilizing technology), pre-quiz and post quiz, group implemented quizzes, exit tickets on skills day, and finally hosting the games to their fellow peers during Olympic week.
