Carry Scooter Board like a suitcase, with wheels turned in next to your body until you are in your own space.
NEVER stand on a scooter board. (I take this opportunity teach them the meaning of the word "Caution" which is imprinted on most scooter boards.
Center your body on the scooter so it won't tip over.
Put fingers between the handles and the board then grip the scooter underneath. This protects your fingers.
Check that shoelaces are tied, that you have no loose clothing and that your hair is tied back so nothing gets stuck in the wheels.
Look in the direction in which you are moving to avoid collisions with another student.
