Name of Activity:

Noodle Stop Soccer

Prerequisites:

Students should have experience using a foot dribble and kick using the inside of the foot.

Suggested Grade Level:

3-5

Materials Needed:

Enough soccer balls for each student to have a ball. Two foam noodles-may be cut in half. Starting lines and soccer goals. Use cones if you have no goals.

Description of Idea

Pick two students to be noodle stoppers. All other students should get a ball and place it somewhere along the goal line. On the whistle or command the students will dribble their ball to the opposite goal and try to score. The two noodle stoppers will attempt to stop them from scoring by hitting the dribblers ball with their noodle. If their ball is noddle stopped they have to freeze at the spot where their ball was touched. (Instead of just standing still they can do locomotor movements around their ball or their choice of exercise at that spot; they can also practice their dribble in that general area). When everybody has either scored or has been frozen pick two new noodle stoppers. They will now start at this goal line and try to score at the other end. The students who were noodle stopped get to start at the place where they stopped-making it easier this time to score a goal and succeed.

Variations:

Use the same concept but have students work with a partner to practice passing skills.

Assessment Ideas:

Assess the dribbling by checking to see if they are trying to keep the ball close and changing the direction of the ball with their feet to avoid the noodle stoppers.

Adaptations for Students with Disabilities

Students in wheelchairs can be given a hockey stick to hit their ball and use a regular size noodle to be a noodle stopper. class.
