Mental Math Equation Fitness Stations

Purpose of Activity:

To integrate math into physical education fitness stations.

Suggested Grade Level:

6-8

Materials Needed:

Any type of fitness equipment enough for 8 or 9 stations, visuals of fitness activities and 8x10 paper with a math problem and number of sets. e.g. m+9=16, music

Description of Idea

Students should be in groups of 5 or 6. At each station is a visual of the exercise and a math equation with the number of sets for that exercise. The students must solve the math equation to find out how many reps they need to complete (e.g., sit-ups 3 sets, 6y=60 reps.)

Once the problem is solved the students begin the exercise. They can spend 2 or 3 minutes at each station. Each group should be able to get to each station.
