Title of Bulletin Board: Who Will Win The Super Bowl? Category: Special Events Suggested Grade Level: 3-5 Materials: Background paper, boarders, cut out letters, two large sheets of paper for students to write their names on, football icons (printed from online), school mascot-optional Description: The purpose of the board is to build excitement for the Super Bowl, teach about rooting for a team, winning/losing, and good sportsmanship. This bulletin board is a great way to get students and teachers excited about the Super Bowl! At my school, we love connecting the activities that we do in PE class to the events going on in the sports world such as the Super Bowl, World Series, March Madness, Olympics, etc. Our students love talking about the sporting events they watched on TV and I can see the excitement build each time we talk about professional games or athletes. I waited until the two teams were announced to put up the bulletin board, and also went off an existing one from the beginning of the school year ("kicking the year off right" with PE rules and our mascot kicking the football) so the transition was easy and quick. The teachers are invited to vote for their team as well, which is a cool idea for the kids to see if their teacher is rooting for the same team or not! For the football theme, I put a boarder of football helmets from each team in the NFL (something we printed and laminated from years ago). Also for fun, I used our school mascot, which was made for an earlier bulletin board, and had him give the directions to the students about signing their name on the paper for the team they want to win. An easy alternative would be to just print a picture of your mascot for a visual. This is a simple bulletin board to put together, and the students love the interactive part of writing their name for everyone to see!
