Title of Bulletin Board: Thanksgiving Nutrition

Category: Seasons (Fall, Spring, etc.)

Suggested Grade Level: 6-8

Materials: Construction Paper, ellison leaves diecuts, calorie counter

Description:

I thought it was important for our students to be aware of the amount of calories a traditional Thanksgiving dinner accumulated. Many times our students, and ourselves, just eat out of tradition but are not aware of the caloric intake for that meal. By creating this bulletin board students and staff are able to see what one serving of our favorite Thanksgiving dishes is composed of. Having the big turkey and bright colors makes the message of the bulletin board stick out so that the elementary levels attention is grasped but the caloric content on the plumes of the turkey makes this bulletin board also appropriate for our junior high and high school level students.

The most creative board I have come up with so far was a Thanksgiving board. I took pictures of cartoon turkeys performing various exercises and sports and the board said "Exercise is for everybirdy". Kids liked it.
