A first grader approached me and asked if I would tie his shoelaces for him. I bent down and said "sure, but you know you've got to learn to do this on your own someday because you can't go to college unless you can tie your shoes". When he didn't respond I asked if he knew what college was and he said, "yes it's school after high school". I confirmed his response and again jokingly stated that he better learn to tie those shoes. After a few seconds of silence, he responded in a deadpan voicetone, "guess I'll just have to buy slip-ons".
