My fourth grade students were involved in a throwing for accuracy activity called "Fireball", in which they stand around a circle, throw 6 inch or 8 1/2 inch balls at a cage ball, trying to knock it out of the circle. If the ball is knocked out, the ball is placed back in the middle of the circle and "Ready, Aim, Fire!" or something similar is called out for the activity to continue. As I restarted the activity with "Ready, Fire at Will," a student next to me stopped in mid-throw, and with a confused look on this face said to himself, "There's no one named Will in our class."
