Last week, after directing the students to start their warm-up laps, a first grade student came up to me with his foot raised high in the air. With an excited look on his face he said, "Coach, look at my new walking shoes!" I said, "Ooh, those are nice, now start running your laps." He walked away, and came back a few seconds later with a confused look on his face. He said, "Coach, my mom told me these were walking shoes. Can I still run in them?" I assured him running was fine. Then he questioned, "How about skipping? Is skipping okay?"
