PE Central Kids Quote of the Week
For week beginning Thursday, March 12, 1998
A first grade class had just finished a creative dance lesson, and I was asking students what they felt like when they were moving. I then related what they did to dancers, especially ballet dancers, as they tell a story and show what they are feeling by moving. One young man told the class that he took ballet classes. There were a few chuckles by other students, and I reminded the class that ballet was a wonderful activity for boys, too, as it required them to jump high and be very strong and fit. A little girl, backing him up, piped up with all seriousness, "I know, there are boys in my ballet class...they're called 'male dancers'!" (I wasn't about to correct her of her misconception -- I figured she'd found out about it in due time!)
