Several years ago I had the pleasure of talking to a number of 4th and 5th graders about their throwing experiences. We talked about how to throw, the reasons why it is important (or unimportant) to throw, and we talked specifically about how they went about learning to throw in their PE classes. In the next few weeks I am going to share with you their insightful, honest, and sometimes funny comments.

Mark: "Is it important for boys and girls of your age to learn how to throw?"

Response: "Yes, there has been proven facts it is easier if you learn it when you are at the young age. It is harder when you are an adult because you have been used to this way."

Mark: "What would the proven facts show about throwing?"

Response:"Its sorta like.....if you learn something at an earlier age then you are better at it as you get older because you have had practice. Like if you are playing a musical instrument, like I just started the flute, you gotta learn how to put your fingers in the correct position and other stuff like that. If you learn how to do that, then later on if you get into the band, you won't have to worry about having to learn exactly how to the play the flute again.

Its sort of like throwing. If you learn how to throw at an early age then you will get a head start for later. That is probably what most of the Pro football and baseball players do. They learn how to throw and catch at an early age so they know how to do it later."
