PE Central Kids Quote of the Week
For week beginning Monday, February 12, 1996
Some youngsters were recently asked to tell a friend of mine how he should best make an accurate and hard throw from the outfield all the way to the catcher at home plate during a baseball game. This is a group response (i.e., group brainstormed and then wrote it out together).
First of all, you have to be sure you have enough energy so you have to exercise a lot. You also have to be sure that you are stretched out so you don't pull a muscle.
The first thing you have to do is pick up the ball fast so you can throw it. When you make the throw, be sure you aren't mad and don't hurry, you might throw it in the wrong direction.
When you throw the ball, throw it high in the air so the catcher can catch it in the air. And just in case you don't get the ball there, or if you throw it in the wrong direction, don't get mad at yourself or your teamates. That would be bad!
To throw the ball right, you have to stand up and put your right foot forward (if you are right handed), opposite if you are left handed. Pull your arm back first, and hold the ball above your shoulder, then move your arm forward and let go of the ball when your arm is half way down and then let your arm follow through.
