While on a break during a recent school day, a first grade student approached me and said "I like you and think you are a good teacher." I replied "Thanks, that is nice to hear." She then told me that at the beginning of the school year she didn't like me. I asked her why and she said in a very adult like manner "I was just not used to you. She also said..."And that is just the way I am" I replied....."you know what, I went through the same thing." And then she headed off to class.

As a first year teacher, this conversation really opened my eyes up to what children know, feel, and understand about human relationships. Another first year experience I will not forget.
