BMI Fitness Homework

Purpose of Activity:

The purpose of the activities it to get the students understand Body Composition through body mass index.

Suggested Grade Level:

6-8

Description of Idea

These fitness homeworks are meant for the students to take home and complete. These assignments are designed to ensure the students are exercising outside of school. These assignments are focused on the Cardiovascular fitness component to improves their overall fitness levels.

This is a homework assignment that gives students a focus on the Muscular Strength health related topic with questions about that reading. Along with the reading the students must complete a 30 minute workout. If they get a family member to complete the workout with them they get extra credit. This is done to attempt to get the community involved in fitness as well.

These homework ideas are graded out of 10 points and are designed to help the students who are in need of extra help outside of school. We give this homework out at the beginning of the week and it is due on Friday. We see our students every other day.

Realize that BMI is a ratio of height to weight. It is not a measure of body fat percentage so on the second sheet one should remove the % question and the percent sign.
I love the idea of getting extra credit if the student gets a family member to exercise with them!
