PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Brains About Bikes

Category: Bicycle Safety

Suggested Grade Level: 6-8

Materials: Butcher paper, picture of a bike, die cut letters

While student teaching, we were doing a Mountain Biking unit and I had to do an informational bulletin board. I placed this one right by the entrance of the gymnasium so the kids would be able to see it every time they came to PE. I found a clip art picture and printed it out (we didn't have an LCD Projector) and turned it into an overhead and traced and then colored it in. We stressed the 'pre-riding check' for the kids. They had to inspect their bike and they were asked every class what the ABC's (Air, Brakes, Crank or Chain) where and how they did them. They also had to properly put on a helmet (not too tight or too loose, covers forehead) and have it checked by us teachers. The kids did really well with everything and it was a quick and easy reminder for the students on quiz day.
