PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: American Heart Month

Category: Health

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Materials: Colorful heart border, white paper for background, red labeled heart, letters A,M,E,R,I,C,N,H,T,O,W,L,X, and S, cutouts of hearts, construction paper

The bulletin board is for American Heart Month. It has a hand drawn labeled heart. It has suggestions of a Heart Healthy Diet (high vitamin C, limit fat intake, low in sodium, whole grains, vegetables, and fruits). It also has suggestions on Prevention of Heart Diseas (exercise consistently, heart healthy diet, maintain healthy weight, regular health screenings, and no smoking). It recommends to EAT WELL + EXERCISE = Excellent Health. The bulletin board was made for my first student teaching placement. I was placed at a elementary school K-4 in late January/early February and thought it was necessary for everyone to know about American Heart Month. It was very easy to make except for the heart. It took about 45 minutes to draw and label the night before I put the bulletin board up.
