PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Jump Rope for Heart Fundraiser

Category: Fundraisers

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Materials: jump rope, backing paper, construction paper, small cardboard box, and letter/shape punch

This bulletin board, entitled “Jump Rope for Heart”, served a two-fold purpose. First, it described a few of the health benefits associated with jumping rope (burning calories, improving your mood, and making your heart strong). Secondly, it served as an advertisement encouraging students to participate in the school-wide Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser. For students wishing to participate, sponsor forms were available at the bottom right of the bulletin board. Additionally, the students who were unable to participate were still able to contribute to the cause by collecting donations and placing them into the box at the bottom left of the board. Furthermore, the name of each participating student was written on a solid, colored heart and placed either within the big jump rope heart or on the border of the bulletin board. The bulletin board was student-friendly because each child was excited to see their name appear on the board and therefore they felt as though they played an integral role in the overall appearance of the bulletin board and the success of the Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser.
