PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Hearts of Honor

Category: Special Events

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Materials: "In Honor Of" heart template from the American Heart Association

Each year, as we get ready for the Jump Rope for Heart finale, I design a bulletin board that honors people who have suffered from heart problems and either survived or passed away. The hearts are printed on red and purple construction paper. Students are instructed to remember a relative or friend who had a heart attack or stroke and lived or perhaps passed away. When they bring the hearts back they can staple them to the board. Many times the hearts spill over onto the wall because this problem affects so many people.

The large heart with paper lace around it in the center of the board is used to honor a very special person. This year (and last) we honored a student who lost his life due to a heart condition.
