Title of Bulletin Board: Get "Caught" Being a Good Sport

Category: Sportsmanship

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Materials: netting, old sporting equipment, lettering, fish cutouts and border

In our school we have a program called "Getting Along Together" (GAT) that encourages good habits in all areas of relationships, including sportsmanship, so we decided to go along with this school-wide theme and focus on sportsmanship in PE as well! We used an old, torn volleyball net for our fishing net and then used staples to hold them up onto the board. Behind the netting are fish cutouts and around the edge is a border of water and fish. In addition to the bulletin board, our school has "positive referrals" that are filled out by teachers when a student is seen doing the weekly "cooperative challenge" from GAT and which go into a bucket in the main office. Once a week a student is chosen from each grade's bucket and a prize is given. Other ideas to make this board go further: once the board is established take out the sporting equipment and start putting names on fish cutouts of students that are "caught being a good sport" in class!
