PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Healthy Bodies Under Construction

Category: Health

Suggested Grade Level: k-5

Materials: Letter cutouts, images of healthy behaviors or exercises, Bob the Builder poster or image (I used a balloon)

Our elementary school had extensive renovations over the summer and another part of our campus is currently under construction. My principal decided that our theme for the year would be an anti-bullying message "Under construction to build up, never to tear down." I decided to use the "under construction" theme to convey the message that healthy bodies are a work in progress. The healthy habits I used were exercise everyday, eat a healthy diet, drink plenty of water, wash your hands, get enough sleep and brush your teeth. Since the students line up in this area, the bulletin board provides an opportunity to discuss these healthy habits on a regular basis. I also asked the students to explain the meaning behind "kids at work" in PE, to which many of them said things like working their muscles, making their hearts stronger etc.
