PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Growth Mindset

Category: Awards/Hall of Fame

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Materials: Old trophies, Die-cut Letters, Student Pictures, Various Quotes About Having a Growth Mindset

Every year in the gymnasium I create an award that encompasses different character traits and/or personal attributes. This year I really wanted students to understand the difference between have a growth-mindset vs. a fixed mindset when trying to overcome difficult tasks in the gym. With that said we also learned a bunch about recycling throughout the year. In trying to incorporate both of those topics I created the "PE Growth Mindset Award" where I challenged students to "Recycle Their Thoughts" and turn them around from negative to positive. The result was this bulletin board. We were able to showcase all of the students who had earned the award which I created for using their growth mindset to achieve and master tasks in PE.

Additional Information:

The actual trophy itself was created by taking old trophies I had collected from friends and family members and spray painting them green, as in, go-green and recycle. The award was a huge hit and students really started having some great conversations around making positive choices and keeping an upbeat attitude when faced with adversity.
