PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Get the Penguins Moving!

Category: Seasons (Fall, Spring, etc.)

Suggested Grade Level: K-2

Materials: Construction paper, border, scissors, stapler, glue gun/sticks, aluminum foil, cotton balls, popsicle sticks, brown paint, irredescent cellophane, wooden moose ornament, glue on eyes, white glitter

This bulletin board was displayed prior to winter vacation. I drew the penguins and had students to suggest a winter activity, in order to create a scene that would promote a cardio activity that could be done over winter break. Students created "speaking bubbles" for the penguins. (They liked the pond, as the irredescent cellophane (over light blue paper) gave the appearance of a frozen pond!) This bulletin board elicited several meaningful discussions about winter activities that could provide exercise over vacation; many students shared that they would be ice skating during the winter months, and then returned to school confirming their participation in winter sports!
