PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Elevate your heart rate

Category: About the Heart

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Materials: Construction paper, cardboard, tape, staples,

This board was developed to demonstrate how physical activity increases your heart rate. With the play on words "elevate your hear rate," an elevator was constructed giving the board an interactive element. The poster to the right of the elevator shows the different levels of activity (Level 1: resting,Level 2: moderate, Level 3: vigorous). Pictures were added to give the students visuals and examples of each activity level. Students could pull the cord to have the heart in the elevator rise up and down. In class, students were asked at various times "what level is your heart rate at right now?" Students were able to answer by referring back to the bulletin board.
