PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Ready, Set, Go!

Category: Pedometers

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Materials: Pedometers, Map, Wet-Dry Boards

Students spent nine weeks wearing pedometers in PE class. We continued classes as usual, and at the end of each class period, they would record their steps on small white boards (4 per class). The map was updated at the end of each week to show the steps taken and miles walked so far. The students were working on their math skills and setting goals for themselves of reaching a mile per class. We walked from our school in NY to Daytona Beach, Florida in time for the Daytona 500. We culminated the project with a "Daytona Day" where students had a chance to pretend to be race car drivers (mats on scooters) and race around our own PDS Speedway!
