PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: December is the NEW January!

Category: Holiday-Christmas/Winter

Suggested Grade Level: 6-12

Materials: Poster Board, Stencils for letters ( can use store bought letters or die-cut machine)Magic Markers, Card Stock, and miscellaneous empty boxes, wrapping paper, burlap, and ribbons.

The bulletin board was created for 2 reasons. #1. To provide visual reinforcement to students about the importance of physical education, fitness, and being active year-round. I used quotes from well-known people of varied different vocations, and put them on "gifts" from those individuals to illustrate the relationship between fitness, physical activity, health, and/or wellness and being a well-rounded and successful individual. #2 Out of our district's attempts to decrease Health Physical Education from a year round course to a half year (possibly moving towards block scheduling)I created the board/display to advocate for year round HPE for our kids, which our department unanimously agrees is best for them.

While this was put in a display case/BB, it could easily be done only on a bulletin board. I also offer extra credit to those individuals who research one of the quoted individuals and write a 1 page essay about why this per has advocated for Physical Fitness and Health.
