PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Athletics After School!

Category: Afterschool

Suggested Grade Level: All

Materials: Bulletin Board Paper, acrylic paint, drawings

I wanted to highlight the wide variety of activities students participated in outside of school to encourage students to keep moving outside of PE classes. I surveyed all my students about how they spent their time after school and what activities they participated in. The students then drew pictures of themselves doing their favorite after-school sport in art classes. I drew a background onto the board of the venues in which these sports occurred. Next, the students' pictures were added to give a full view of their activities. These activities included swimming, gymnastics, tennis, football, ice skating, basketball, baseball, cheerleading, dancing, fencing, archery, horseback riding, and soccer (which was the most popular.) Individual activities also included jumping on trampolines, riding bikes, walking dogs, jump-roping, pogoing, skateboarding, and tumbling. Weekend activities even included camping, skiing, and scuba diving. The bulletin board was displayed in the cafeteria for all students to see. What an active group of students we have at St. James!
