PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Giving Thanks

Category: Holiday-Thanksgiving

Suggested Grade Level: All

Materials: Large brown paper sack, brown paper lunch sack, construction paper for feathers, glitter, letters

The turkey was constructed by filling a large paper bag with newspaper for the body. The bag was stapled to the board before filling. A small lunch sack was used for the head, with construction paper eyes, waddle, beak, bow and feet. The feathers were made from different colored construction paper with gold glitter added to the tops. At the end of October, we asked each faculty member to write what they were thankful for, and we transferred to the feathers. You could ask students from each grade level, students with good behavior, draw from all the students to list what they are thankful for. Another alternative would be to list people that help to keep us healthy such as doctors/school nurse, coaches, food preparers/ parents/ teachers etc. We chose to use the faculty and staff so that the students could see that we were thankful for non-material things.
