Title of Bulletin Board: "March" is Just One Way To Move

Category: Integration

Suggested Grade Level: K-2

Materials: paper, markers, pictures from children's story books with fun movements

During Read Across America week, the first week of March, my students in the lower grades (K-2) and I "play" a variety of books in the gym. Books like, "Monkey See, Monkey Do" by Mark Gave, "Crazy Like a Fox" by Loreen Leedy and "Barnyard Dance" by Sandra Boynton have many fun movements in them.
I posted text and pictures from some of the books on my bulletin board and challenged my older students (grades 3-6) to come up with other fun movement words to add to the board. We discussed how it is important to use a variety of words in their writing to make it more interesting. For example, it more interesting to read that Bonnie tip-toed as opposed to just walked.
