PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Be A Life Saver....Learn CPR

Category: Jump Rope for Heart

Suggested Grade Level: 6-12

Materials: Bullentin Board Paper, Markers, Printouts

This bulletin board was displayed in the health hallway during the month of February to promote the importance of learning CPR. We have a CPR practicum during our First Aid Unit. With 70% of people feeling helpless during an emergency we want our students to know the importance of taking our health course and learning the steps of first aid and CPR. The facts we included are:

- Nearly 383,000 out of hospital cardiac arrests occur annually.
- Brain death starts to occur 4-6 minutes after someone experiences cardiac arrest.
- Effective bystander CPR can triple a victims chance of survival.
- Only 32% of victims get CPR from a bystander
- 70% of people feel helpless in an emergency situation
* This information was found on the Red Cross website.

Both students and teachers seemed intrigued by this bulletin board and surprised by the statistics.
