PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Women's History Month

Category: Girls and Women in Sports

Suggested Grade Level: All

Materials: Pictures of influental women in sports, letters

This bulletin board is entitled "March into Women's History Month". I took pictures of influental women in sports. i.e. Billie Jean King, Laila Ali, The Goddess Nike, Dot Richardson, The Rockford Peaches, Rebecca Lobo, etc. I printed off the photos, backed them in green, and then wrote their name and what they were known for, or what sport they played.

Additional Information:

This has really given the students something to look at when they are in the gym before school, or while waiting for their teacher after class. A lot of the students were surprised that there are girls who play football and box.

it was very refreshing to see you did a women's history month in your pe department! i just finished high school and we never had anything like this, girls at my school always felt inferior to the guys when it came to sport. i wish we'd had a display like this as it would have encouraged more girls to involve themselves in pe, as a lot of girls just skipped the lesson altogether. it's nice to see female athletes being appreciated!
