Title of Bulletin Board: Remember Today Field Day
Category: Field Day
Suggested Grade Level: All
Materials: Markers and poster paper
For so many of us, Field Day is a special childhood school memory. I thought a poem would help the students at Furnace Woods Elementary school keep the day close to their hearts and help them remember their Field Day fondly. The poem includes the days events, some of the basic rules and reminders about safety. REMEMBER TODAY was transcribed onto a piece of poster paper with black marker. Surrounding the poem are pictures that reminded our school community of all the activities we participate in on Field Day. An obstacle course, Trivia, Picnic, Ice pops, Relay Races and an Owl. The Owl is our mascot at Furnace Woods Elementary School. He reminds the students to be WISER. WISER stands for Well Mannered, Independent, Safe, Encouraging and Respectful. The acronym is part of the school wide behavior modification program used to help establish and maintain a positive school atmosphere. Once the pencil pictures were complete they were colored in with a variety of colored magic markers. The Poster was shared with Furnace Woods staff at a faculty meeting and shared with all the students during physical Education class. It eventually found it's permanent home during the month of June on the bulletin board in front of the cafeteria. There it was a daily reminder of the upcoming FIELD DAY event.
