PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Walk-to-School Day

Category: Special Events

Suggested Grade Level: All

Materials: Large bulletin board paper designed and shaped into a sneaker, class pictures of students (feet only), "walk" printed out in various languages

This board was built to celebrate a recent walk-to-school event in our community. Our school community is primarily bused into school, but still wanting to join in on "Massachusetts walk-to school" festivities, we put a plan in place. Housing an event for 750+ students wasn't easy, but it was soooo much fun! Throughout the school day while in specialist classes (PE, Music, Art, and Computers) the children filed into the gymnasium 4 classes at a time. Upon arrival students signed our enormous sneaker signifying their participation in the days events. Next, we took a class picture (feet only) of each class to attach to our finished bulletin board. When this was complete, students were taken outside to our beautiful school grounds to walk around a special route marked off with various, "did you know?" walking fun-facts. The children were walking, learning, and enjoying the beautiful New England weather.
