PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: New Year...New 2013 Healthy You

Category: Nutrition

Suggested Grade Level: k-8

Materials: My Food Plate Poster, Food Group Signs printed from computer, Printable food coloring sheets for students to color in and help decorate the board and letters to spell out title

I use this board in my Physical Education class as an introduction to our nutrition unit and it also doubles as a chance for my students to make healthy choices as they enter the cafeteria (based on location of the board). I want my students to have a better understanding of the different food groups and why they are important to their bodies. As the unit goes on I continue to add to the board, as we talk about serving sizes for each food group; based on age, gender and activity levels (for grades 4th-6th).
For the grades K-3rd I give them coloring pages on the different food groups and have them color in the food/cut it out. I then use it when I do my "Healthy Food Shopping List" lesson and I use it decorate the bulletin board as well.
