Title of Bulletin Board: Raking in Healthy Habits
Suggested Grade Level: All
Materials: Colored paper (leaf punch is really nice), staples, markers, scissors
I started out with some brown paper and stapled the trunk to the board and stuffed it with newspaper to give it a 3-D effect. Next I twisted the same light brown paper (paper bags would work as well) to create the branches. I also stapled the branches to the board and used masking tape for the wall part. I just twisted and added more branches until it looked like a tree. I cut out the letters: RAKING IN HEALTHY HABBITS. I also punched out enough leaves for all students (except K). I stapled the 5th grade leaves to the tree and put the rest in "leaf piles". Each student was responsible for writing one healthy habit on a leaf after we talked about some examples. I really stressed with them what it means to be healthy and have healthy habits, not just doing something one time. I also cut the rake out of poster board. It was done free handed, but could be done using an overhead or an ELMO. A colleague thought she would use a real rake and attach it to the bulletin board.
