PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Dangers of Energy Drinks

Category: Nutrition

Suggested Grade Level: 9-12

Materials: Construction paper, precut stars, printed pictures. border paper

This bulletin board was designed to be simple in nature, yet powerful in message. I took six of the most common energy drinks on the market and listed the amounts of sugar in each represented by a picture of a tablespoon for each portion in each can. I also tried to make the bulletin board visually appealing by making it very colorful and attractive to the eye. I wanted it to be visually stimulating, thereby attracting people to the message contain within it. I also added a list of the dangers associated with drinking large quantities of energy drinks. On that list, I made the text bold for the last three possible consequences emphasizing the extreme end of what may happen if they continue drinking energy drinks. Consequences include increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, anxiety, headaches, stroke, and even sudden death. Finally, I made it easy to understand with as little words as possible so that it could be understood by students of all grade levels.
