Title of Bulletin Board: School Zip code for Health
Suggested Grade Level: 3-12
Materials: cut out letters and numbers, hint worksheets, and do you know what it is cards
In our county we are currently incorporating the Zip code for Health into our schools, 9-5-2-1-0 which stands for 9 hours of sleep every night, 5 fruits and vegetables per day, 2 hour limit on screen time per day, 1 hour of physical activity per day, 0 sugar added beverages per day. The goal of this program is try to teach our students about healthy lifestyle choices. This board was created to make learning about the information a little bit more interactive. Underneath each number there is a clue to what it stands for. Under the hint their is flap that says "Do you know what it is?", students have to lift the flap to find the answer to each one.
9: Hint - Lack of this may cause you to be cranky and unhappy, Do you know what it is flap: You need 9 hours of sleep every night.
5: Hint - These are good for the digestive system, Do you know what it is flap: You should eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day
2: Hint - Too much of this can lead to less time for play and exercise, Do you know what it is flap: 2 hour limit on screen time per day
1: Hint - This helps strength your heart, Do you know what it is flap: 1 hour of physical activity per day
0: Hint - These may cause dental cavities and potential tooth enamel erosion, Do you know what it is flap: 0 sugar-added beverages per day.
