Title of Bulletin Board: Walk Across America

Category: Before School Clubs

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Materials: colored paper, print out of US states & their info, sneakers, USA map

For our before school Walking Club I made a board.

Their was a US map that we used to track our progress. As we reached each state on our path I would post that states name and capital, their state flag, bird, flower and a few interesting facts about that state.

On the left side I posted our objectives:
- Objective 1: We will walk two times a week in order to improve cardiovascular fitness.
- Objective 2: We will track our progress on a map of the United States in order to reinforce or introduce knowledge of U.S. states and their capitals.
- Objective 3: We will track mileage walked with beads of varying colors, each color represents a different distance (yellow = quarter mile and blue = mile), in order to integrate mathematics and standard measurement.

The colored feet on the bottom tell how many miles were completed each week as a group.

The sneakers on the bottom are some of the students' reflections.
