Title of Bulletin Board: A Tease Is a Hook - Don't Bite!

Category: Bullying

Suggested Grade Level: K-2

Materials: Foil-covered cardboard "hook," student-decorated "fish," backing paper, cutout title letters

This board, created by teacher Cindy Hodge, catches students' attention and suggests ways for students to resist the bullying of teasing. A large foil-covered hook was cut from cardboard and mounted at the corner of the board that was covered in a watery background. Students were prompted to brainstorm positive reactions to teasing (walk away, laugh it off, ignore it, make a joke, etc.) and their suggestions were posted with fish that they decorated themselves. Large cutout letters presented the title, and the hook and cutouts are reused each year.
