Purpose of Activity: To have students transition from one activity to the other in a quiet and sequential manner. Prerequisites: Students should have a clear understanding of what the freeze/stop/halt signal means. For our situation it means: Equipment and body still and student in a position to see the teacher. Suggested Grade Level: PreK-5 Materials Needed: If outside may need a stop signal that students can hear clearly (e.g., whistle, drum, etc.). Description of Idea
This is a visual/audio/kinesthetic multiple
intelligence's approach to a class management episode. As soon as students
hear or see the "Take Five" activity (described below) they begin and join
in the count down from five to one.
When the
countdown is complete everyone should be in the active
listening mode (quiet, eyes on teacher, and ready to listen). The visual is the number of fingers held up.
The audio is saying the correct number and naming the
desired behavior action. And the kinesthetic is the
movement that represents the desired behavior.
