Classroom Management

This is a visual/audio/kinesthetic multiple intelligence's approach to a class management episode. As soon as students hear or see the "Take Five" activity (described below) they begin and join in the count down from five to one.

When the countdown is complete everyone should be in the active listening mode (quiet, eyes on teacher, and ready to listen). The visual is the number of fingers held up. The audio is saying the correct number and naming the desired behavior action. And the kinesthetic is the movement that represents the desired behavior.

1. hold up FIVE fingers; say five; say "stop" (or blow whistle if outside) as arm extends in front of body palm facing away.
2. hold up FOUR fingers; say four; say "look" as fingers move to brow, looking out at teacher.
3. hold up THREE fingers; say three; say "listen" as fingers cup behind ear.
4. hold up TWO fingers; say two; say "shhh" (or be silent) as fingers rest on lips.
5. hold up ONE finger; say one; say "think" as finger touches or taps temple.
