Name of Activity: We've Got It Going On (Backstreet Boys)

Purpose of Activity: Cooperation, working with a partner, learning steps to a specific dance

Prerequisites: Grapevine step, Do Si Do, partner switches

Suggested Grade Level: 6-8

Recommended music: We've Got It Going On by the Backstreet Boys (from Amazon.com)

Beginning dance formation: Double circle with partners on the inside circle facing out and the outside circle facing in.

Description of Idea

First 8 Counts:
Inside circle starts with left foot, outside circle starts with right foot.
Heel,Toe, Heel, Toe (1-4)
Inside circle does a grapevine step to the left starting with left foot. Outside circle does a grapevine step to right, starting with right foot. (5-8)

Next 8 Counts:
Repeat counts 1-8 but do them going back in the other direction.

Next 8 Counts:
Partners put right hands up as if doing a high five. Both partners step forward with the right foot and then the left so that they are standing side by side in a high five position. (1-2 )
Both partners step back with their left foot and then with the right to original high five position.(3-4)
Repeat this step together and step apart one more time. (5-8)

Last 8 Counts:
Partners pass right shoulders for an 8 count Do Si Do. Outside partner will veer off to the right on the 4 steps back and go with the next partner to their right.

Dance starts over from the beginning with a new partner.

Assessment Ideas:

I evaluate the kids strictly on how willing they are to work with different people and how hard they are trying to learn the steps.
