Name of Activity: Pot of Gold Hunter

Purpose of Activity: Warm up tag game for St. Patrick's Day.

Prerequisites: Students must know about St Patrick's day and leprechauns and the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Suggested Grade Level: K-2

Materials Needed: Cones to mark off playing area.

Description of Idea

After students find a good self space in the activity area tell them they are all Magic Leprechauns. Choose two students to be rainbows (i.e., taggers) and give them a ball to carry or have them wear pinnies. On your signal, the rainbows try to tag the leprechauns using a locomotor skill of your choice (preferably walking, skipping, hopping, and not running). When tagged, leprechauns turn into a pot of gold (they must make a low curled up shape on the floor and make a spout with their hand/arm). To become free and rejoin the tag game a magic spell must be put upon them by a leprechaun. This is done by students tagging the person and saying Happy St. Patty Day! After a few minutes designate other children to be rainbows.
