Name of Activity:

Sunshine and Snowflakes

Suggested Grade Level:

K-1

Materials Needed:

One yarn ball for the snowflake (a blue pinnie could also be used), one yellow pinnie or strip or cloth to hold could be used for the sunshine.

Description of Idea

Two students are chosen to be it (snowflakes). Have the students start out by walking and then you can choose other locomotor patterns as they get more adept at chasing and fleeing. Snowflakes move around and tag other students with the snowball (yarn ball). Students that are touched by the snowflakes are frozen. Two other students are chosen to be the sunshine. Students that are sunshine run around and melt frozen students by tagging them. Once they are unfrozen, they are back in the game. Change the sunshine and snowflakes frequently. Snowflakes can't freeze sunshine.

Variations:

Vary locomotor skills.
