PE Central Kids Quote of the Week
For week beginning Monday, August 12, 2002
When giving directions to my elementary classes, I sometimes use other cue words instead of the word 'go' to signal when students can move and begin another task. I do this primarily to make sure they are listening and getting all of the instructions before moving on to the next activity. During a kindergarten class, I chose to use the word guacamole instead of go. They giggled when I used this word, but no one asked me what it was. When the class gathered at the end of the lesson, I asked them if anyone knew what guacamole was. One child raised his hand and said, "I think it means 'go' in French!"
