The Jumpshot Club basketball site informs our youth on the most difficult thing to do in basketball. Shooting the basketball has been ignored for too long and this site aims to refocus our youth on the fine art of becoming a great jumpshooter. The site also encourages youngsters to get back to the fundamental part of the game that could enable them to be in position to secure an athletic scholarship at major universities. Included on the site is a 90 minute instructional video (can purchase online) that is filled with highlights, tips and drills for any age basketball player.
This site provides a tip sheet that focuses on basketball fundamentals. The author Geoff Shurtleff gives brief cues one can use to perform the following basketball skills appropriately: passing, shooting, rebounding, dribbling, offensive/defensive e play, zone defending, and half court pressing. For example, Mr.. Shrutleff uses the following cues for passing: eye contact, crisp two handed pass, pass to target-outside shoulder, and step to receive. This is a good web site for young players and parent coaches.
This site provides a comprehensive view of basketball. It features a monthly clinic as well as a history of the sport which can be incorporated into your lesson plans. The playbook section offers basketball drills which can be downloaded to your computer and the archives supply a multitude of ideas beneficial to the educator and the coach. The Monthly Clinic section provides new material on a regular basis and the youth section has some basic skills which are of particular interest for the instructor with students at beginning skill levels. This site also had links to other areas of basketball interest. Beware that it is slow to load and requires you to add a plugin but well worth the effort.
