Description of Idea

At the beginning of each year, I laminate a Golden Sneaker sign for each classroom. Students hang their earned class points on this sign, count up the points, and they are responsible for bringing them to my class when they have earned enough (50).

The Physical Education teacher awards 0-10 points per day to each class for their behavior and protocols during his/her class. Classes take the yellow point tag to their homeroom and post it on the sneaker sign. When a class has earned 50 points, they earn Golden Sneaker Time (10 minutes worth of free choice activity time in PE).

Phrases like "You earned a point for walking quietly in line", "You put away your equipment without throwing it--2 points earned", etc. are positive ways to reinforce the protocols/rules of your class.

Classes will quickly learn that there is a direct relationship between number of points awarded each day and the frequency of Golden Sneaker Time.

Bonus points: Classes earn 1 bonus point for having everyone in their class wear sneakers.
