Name/Title: Hit a Homer in PE! (Bulletin Board)

Purpose of Event: A visual reminder to students about their behavior in class.

Prerequisites: A introduction to the PE rules.

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Materials Needed: Bulletin board, laminated paper shoes, thumb tacks, construction paper.

Description of Idea

This is a bulletin board idea that gives students visual feedback on their behavior in class.

Before school starts, make a bulletin board that has a baseball diamond with a big outfield. In the outfield make baseballs with a rule on each one of them. In the infield make sure that the bases can be seen easily. Around home plate, have paper shoes. On each shoe, write the classroom teacher's name. Title the bulletin board, "Hit a Home Run in PE"

After each class period, have students gather by the bulletin board. If the class followed all the rules that are written on the baseballs, then move their class shoes up by one base. If the class did not follow the rules, point out which rules the class still need to work on.

Each time the class "scores", record their runs on a score sheet. At the end of the quarter, give the class with the most runs a prize. A good prize can be an extra gym class that day, a free day, or a your choice day.
