PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Survivor

Category: Cooperation

Suggested Grade Level: 6-8

Materials: Construction paper, paint, craft items to decorate masks

This was created during art class for my physical education class. The art teacher and I integrated our curriculum together in order to create a unity between a team building unit and artistic african culture. Each class was divided into two different tribe. Each tribe was provided about five or six masks to decorate and resemble their tribe. There was about 2-3 students per mask to increase participation. The totem poles were hung all together amongst its opponents.

At the start of each challenge, in PE, the tribes would bring their totem poles into the gym placed onto a wooden stantion next to their rivals totem pole. The tribe that wins the challenge earns a feather. This unit focuses on unity and cooperation. It also focuses on positive social skills amongst their peers in competitive situations.
