Title of Bulletin Board: Staying Fit while Having Fun in the Sun

Category: Fitness

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Materials: Construction paper, tape, glue, tacs, yarn, starfish

My bulletin board was on physical activity and staying fit. I related it to our location here in Wilmington, NC and gave it the beach theme. I felt that if the kids could relate to it, then it would have more of an impact on them. I had different activities that kids could do while they went to the beach with their family and friends. The first activity I had was surfing, and by showing surfing I made a 3D ocean with a surf board in it. My second activity I had was flying a kite. I went about that by making a large kite out of construction paper and had a long piece of yarn connected to it, so that it would pop-out more. My third activity was running on the beach. So, what I did was attach real starfish with string to the bulleting board. The starfish had paper-made tennis shoes on, so that represented running. My fourth activity was playing in the sand. So, I made a bucket that represents digging in the sand, building sandcastles, hauling water back and forth from the ocean, etc. I had a variety of activities so that there is inclusion of every student. Because there is a variety, someone can relate to at least one of them, or even more. I want kids to know that going to the beach can add a whole days worth of physical activity to their life. I want them to see that physical activity is fun, and that there are many different ways to stay fit.
